Practising what we preach
We encourage the Hayes Knight team to think and contribute beyond the four walls of our office. Many of our team are professional leaders, spokespeople, and contributors. Here are just a few of the areas we are involved with:
Professional leadership
The knowledge of our team is often called on outside of our typical corporate work.
Australian Board of Taxation
Hayes Knight’s reputation as a leading advocate for the needs of small and medium sized business community was affirmed with the re-appointment of Greg Hayes, Director of Hayes Knight NSW, to the Advisory Panel of the Board of Taxation.
NZICA Professional Standards Board
Craig Fisher, Director of Hayes Knight New Zealand was Chairman of the NZICA Professional Standards Board from 2001 – 2008 where he represented New Zealand internationally in audit and assurance standard setting.
Contributing knowledge
Many of the Hayes Knight team write and contribute their knowledge in articles and journals.
A Practical Guide to Business Valuations for SMEs
Published in late 2009 by CCH Australia, A Practical Guide to Business Valuations for SMEs walks through the issues and processes that need to be addresses. Its unique SME focus together with suggested report templates and work programs makes it an invaluable tool for any adviser to the SME market.
Trainers and contributors
The practical way we approach our work is also what makes the Hayes Knight team insightful speakers. The team deliver a multitude of presentations across the country and internationally at any one time for the professional accounting bodies, for industry, and for Government. Here’s a sample of training programs that we have either designed or delivered (or both) recently:
For the professional accounting bodies
Hayes Knight designed and delivers the Audit of SMSF training program for CPA Australia. Hosted by CPA Australia, the training sessions deliver a thorough overview of the obligations and requirements of SMSF auditors and some of the practical issues in the superannuation space.
In New Zealand, the Institute of Chartered Accountants frequently calls upon the expertise of the Hayes Knight team to deliver training programs for their professional colleagues.
For Government
NSW Department of State & Regional Development
Hayes Knight won a contract with the NSW Department of State & Regional Development to create, develop, and deliver a training program to assist small and medium sized businesses to better understand their business needs and capitalise on their opportunities. The training program took participants through a business needs assessment, decision making pathway, and an assessment of their sale and succession needs.
Northern Territory Department of Business and Employment
As part of the Territory’s ‘October Business Month’ Hayes Knight NT hosted Improve Your Bottom Line, a 2-hour seminar to help SMEs understand how to create the foundations for a sustainable business.
City of Sydney
The City of Sydney’s Economic Development Unit invited Greg Hayes to be a keynote speaker for a seminar on Cash Flow management as part of the City of Sydney Let’s Talk Business – Smart Business Seminars.
In the media
Common sense and practicality are the keys to great media stories.
Look out for Hayes Knight’s small business questions and answers in the Australian Financial Review Enterprise section, each weekend. The questions and answers cover the myriad of issues vexing Australia’s small and medium business owners and operators from tax, cash flow issues, valuation, succession and much more. Hayes Knight NSW Director Greg Hayes also features regularly in the online business magazine SmartCompany as an expert commentator.
