Michael Carruthers
Tax Services Director, Hayes Knight NSW

Michael is a translator. Much of his time is spent translating complex tax issues into understandable, practical advice. It’s a unique skill that few people are able to do in a way that is meaningful.

Recently appointed to the role of Tax Services Director for Hayes Knight and Knowledge Shop, Michael brings his depth of tax knowledge and practical world view to his work with clients and other professionals.

As the lead tax adviser for Knowledge Shop, he has spent the last three years as an ‘adviser’s adviser’ – working with other accountants to help them interpret, manage, and improve their understanding of tax law and its application to their client’s daily lives, particularly for their small and medium business clients.

Michael is the author and co-author of several comprehensive training programs including Demystifying Trusts, Working with CGT and Advanced Tax & Business Services and a technical editor for Hayes Knight’s knowledge bank.

Prior to joining the Hayes Knight group, Michael worked for over six years with a Big 4 accounting firm, specialising in large corporate and international tax issues. Michael spent 18 months of that time on secondment in London, advising on UK and international tax structuring projects.
