AML/CTF: Why we’re asking you for verification

From 1 July 2026, accounting firms that provide certain services are subject to Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws, overseen by AUSTRAC – Australia’s financial intelligence agency.

What this means for you

Where we provide a service covered by the rules, we're now required to:

  • Confirm your identity - for individuals, this usually means sighting identification such as a driver licence or passport (we do not keep copies), your date of birth, and residential address.
  • Verify details of any entities - for companies, trusts, partnerships and similar structures, we need to confirm how the entity is structured and who ultimately owns or controls it (the ‘beneficial owners’).
  • Keep information current - from time to time we may check in to make sure your details remain accurate.

We're required to carry out these checks for all relevant clients, new and long-standing alike - we have no discretion to skip anyone.

The process is reasonably straight forward and in most cases once we have completed verification it will not need to be redone for a further 2-3 years.
